Our State’s water policy should strongly support conservation by Eastern slope consumers, and preservation of critical water levels in Western slope drainages. While the Eastern slope collectively owns significant water rights on the Western slope, the state as a whole will benefit more by keeping the water where it naturally exists. The water supply is part of a fragile ecosystem that deserves our protection for its own sake. Furthermore, water is the life blood of the tourism industry, vital to all of Colorado’s economic recovery.
